DocsTeach is a website which not only provides access to over 3,000 primary source documents from the National Archives, but also features activities for teachers to use in the classroom that incorporate those documents. Teachers may choose from several pre-made activities, or create their own (to create your own you must register for a free account). There are many types of activities to choose from, organized by historical era, all of which require critical thinking by students and include actual images of historical documents, photos, and maps.
In the activity pictured, students must read a number of historical documents related to the Louisiana Purchase and Louis & Clark Expedition and place them on the corresponding spot on the map.
Most activities are appropriate for middle and high school, although the pictures of the documents themselves could be used in the elementary classroom.
